Steps port your number from Google Voice
- Open Google Voice on your computer.
- If you haven't used Google Voice before, set up Voice. You will be prompted to select a new number, but your transferred number will soon replace it, so it doesn't matter.
- On the top left, click Search, then Legacy Google Voice. Google Voice looks odd, but you're right
- Right-click the Settings tab, then Settings.
- Click the "Phones" tab.
- Click Next to change your current number.
- Select I want to use my mobile number. Follow the on-screen instructions to install and pay for your new number.
- Phone to get calls.
- Additional: Check the status of your numbers. The numbers take 48 to 96 hours to the port.
How to make calls to your main number?
After transferring your old phone number to Google Voice, or
port number to google voice you can use it to send text messages to anyone as long as you have Wi-Fi or data connection, or you have already been notified in advance to have the SMS transfer connected. The only way to receive and receive calls from an old phone number is to use your main phone number as a transfer. In other words, when someone calls your old phone number, that call will be sent to your primary number.
- To install the transfer number, go back to Google Voice Settings and select the "Phones" tab as before. Just click "Add another phone" this time.
- Enter the name of your transfer number and enter the phone number below it. You can also choose whether you want text messages to be sent. If you want to configure more settings, click "Advanced Settings Advanced".
- In these settings, you can simply access the voicemail of your old number and even set calls when you want to be called at certain times, such as "Don't disturb" (although Google Voice has a real, separate one Disrupt function) After making the adjusted settings click "Save".
- Google Voice will then call your transfer number to confirm that you own it and that you will be prompted to enter the two-digit number displayed on the screen on your phone's keyboard. Click "Connect" to begin the process.
- After confirming your number, it will now appear in the "Phones" tab in Google Voice under the number you moved.
- Here you will see a new setting. The ability to receive text notifications about your transfer number when someone leaves a voicemail on your old, transferred number. Check this box next to it if you want to turn it on.
